a5c7b9f00b As a child Matt Murdock was blinded by a chemical spill in a freak accident. Instead of limiting him it gave him superhuman senses that enabled him to see the world in a unique and powerful way. Now he uses these powers to deliver justice, not only as a lawyer in his own law firm, but also as vigilante at night, stalking the streets of Hell's Kitchen as Daredevil, the man without fear.
Matthew Murdock, blinded by chemicals, is an attorney at day and vigilante by night. He is trained in the martial arts and feuds with criminals in Hell's Kitchen. As he fights convicts throughout the city, he meets new allies as well as old friends and becomes Daredevil, a symbol of justice for a corrupted city.
As someone who had only been introduced to Daredevil through the 1994 "Spider_man: The Animated Series" and the 2003 movie, I wasn't a fan of the character before watching this series.

Having binged through both Seasons, I can say that this is easily on of my favourite shows of all time! This show doesn't overstay its welcome with a 16 episode format per season. Taking it's time to really delve deep into the ideologies of of the protagonist Matt Murdock, perfectly portrayed by Charlie Cox. As well as diving into these complex, dark themes in a gritty representation of a Hell's kitchen that exists in the same world as the campy "Avengers" the show knows when to transition between its harsh realistic tone, and pull back for lighter comedic moments. Whilst the show itself is very dark in subject matter, the visuals still manage to become bright and colourful. Inspiring uses of lighting and reflections of yellows, purples and reds crashing through windows and doorways that morph and shape the sets into stylized masterpieces.

With a solid cast, each actor really selling a realistic world that involves Superheros and how that effects the everyday person, Season One of Daredevil is a well thought out masterpiece that breaks Marvel's bad streak of weak villains with what I consider to be the best they've had, Wilson Fisk.

However, the shows second season, though featuring some incredible acting and interesting story arcs with the main three characters, Matt, Karen and Foggy (and John Bernthal's perfect "Punisher") does in fact seem to bite off more then it can chew, leading to elements being rushed and the character of Elektra feeling out of place (Despite a great performance).

Daredevil is an incredible show, with interesting, complex characters, a dark tone with colourful visuals, amazing performances and direction with an iconic title sequence.
It's obvious that one would make comparisons to that of Christopher Nolan's Batman, but for me it's more obvious to compare it to Arrow. For starters, I'm a fanatic of Arrow, to the point of being ridiculous. I had almost boycotted Daredevil because of the Arrow bashing, with the trend of the street saying it was "better". However, I finally broke the picket line, and went to check it out. And I'm glad I did.

In some ways I do know it's better, sure. Even though you can't turn me away from Arrow and make me bash it, I can't deny it's strengths. It wasn't fight sequences, or the action, because they looked and felt the same to me (and honestly, I love the fact that Ollie runs around shooting arrows rapid fire. That's just rad)

Rather, it was the acting, the pace and the level of believably that made it stand out. This is somber, and sad, and you really get scared that poor Matt may actually get killed. Compared to Ollie, he's such a more fragile soul, even if he can kick every one's ass an equal. Hell, there's an entire episode of heart wrenching caliber when Murdock's best friend Foggy finds out he's the psychotic "Devil of Hell's Kitchen".

The flashback sequences with younger Murdock were amazing. Your heart bleeds for the little guy, and I could actually see that being Charlie Cox as a child.

And unlike the popular consensus, I LOVED the slow paced scenes the best. Between the action, and the paranoia bits, there are a lot of moments where people are sitting behind desks and talking. Like real people at work. Many complain about these scenes stating they were "boring". But I loved them. They were the heart and soul of the show. It took some guts to say "OK, now let's have 10 minutes were Foggy, Murdock and Karen investigate stuff online and brain storm other things to look up and then talk some smack" I felt like I knew these people as a bunch of sweet nature, nerdy, up and coming Layers

However, even that wasn't what sold me on the differences between this and Arrow. What made it stand out was Wilson Fisk, Aka The Kingpin, Aka the adversary of the show. He was so sympathetic, you can't hate him. He's crazy, psychotic, violent. But you see why. You wish he had sought some help earlier in his life. He's just a big, overgrown child stuck in a psychosis from his past…thinking he's doing the right thing. Sure, he has some shady understanding of how to keep his revenues up, but you can tell he really thinks he's doing the right thing. And he does care about his those he love. In this instance, the bad guy was just as important as the good guys. And not in the black/white scenario. Some moments you actually think you're siding with him. It's crazy like that.

However, in the end I would still prefer Arrow over Daredevil in that Arrow is just more fun, and has a pulse. Daredevil would get old if it went beyond 13 episodes a season. Better it be treated like a 13 hour long movie series that comes out every year rather than a weekly serial spread out for 23 episodes.

Yes, it takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with such films as Iron Man (2008), Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), The Incredible Hulk (2008), and The Avengers (2012), as well as the TV shows Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013) , Agent Carter (2015) and Jessica Jones (2015). As well as upcoming series Luke Cage (2016), and Iron Fist (2017).

The show also makes several references to the Avengers film. Such as "after new york was destroyed", or "unless he has a suit of iron or a magic hammer".

Ben Urich's office also contains framed newspaper covers featuring the events in The Incredible Hulk and The Avengers. Season 1 has been confirmed to take place three years after The Battle of New York. Stick enlists Matt's help to destroy "Black Sky," a weapon that the Japanese mafia, led by Fisk's associate Nobu, are bringing into New York. Matt agrees on the condition that Stick restrain himself from killing anyone, but Stick breaks his promise when it is revealed that Black Sky is a young boy being held in a shipping container with chains around his neck and limbs. Stick fails to kill Black Sky while at the docks with Matt, but later says he killed the boy further up the road. Stick does not go into detail but says that the boy was more than "just a boy" and that Matt would have sensed this had he not been emotional at the moment. Black Sky is not a term previously found Marvel Comics so there is no clear parallel to be found there at this time. What exactly the boy named Black Sky is and how exactly he is a weapon is not revealed as of the first season of Daredevil, and any fan theories are pure speculation. In season 2; Elektra is revealed to be the Black Sky. There has still been no confirmation on who or what the Black Sky actually is.

Daredevil is a perfect and clean entertainer. moreprepared.com The cast and crew are amazing, the hard work is undeniable, every shot is filmed to perfection. Among the Marvel series that I have watched to date, Daredevil is the best, by far.
